What Are The Root Causes Of Divorce?

The three pillars for a successful marriage are commitment, compromise and communication. These can also be termed as the three C's of a marriage. The causes of divorce can be attributed to the absence of any of these three pillars from a marriage. The number of divorce cases is increasing in today's world. So, there is a great need to evaluate the causes of divorce and find a cure for them.

A marriage is successful if its foundation is laid on the principles of faith and understanding. But in the present world scenario, faith and understanding are so difficult a task that we hear more often of divorce cases. Furthermore, with constant changes in culture along with increasing desire for freedom, people are less bound to their marriage. This further weakens the institution of marriage.

There are so many reasons that shatter your beautiful marriage into ashes and lead to divorce. Sometimes the reason is the lack of time that the spouses need to spend on each other to build a romantic relationship. Sometimes the reasons are incompatibility, lack of commitment and communication, physical torture, emotional torture, sexual abuse, interference of parents and in-laws, lack of maturity and much more.

A common research being done on divorce cases reveals that one of the major reasons for a divorce is the lack of communication. For example, the spouses have some expectations from each other which have remained unfulfilled. Or, in many a cases, the problems are never communicated due to ego clashes or the looming feeling that even if they talk over the matter he/she will be misunderstood.

Divorce rates are higher in American and European countries as compared to the Asian and African countries. This is because individual freedom is given more priority in American and European cultures than in Asian and African societal setting. In the latter, familial or social opinion wins a priority over personal freedom of an individual.

However with globalization, the Asian culture is fast becoming more westernized. With women in Asia now more educated and self-dependent, they are not willing to accept any social or familial opinions at the cost of their self-respect and individual freedom. Thereby increasing divorce cases in Asian and African countries as well.

Whatever be the causes of divorce, it is always a painful event for both the husband and wife and their entire family. So the important point is to act intelligently and look at the root causes of divorce and try to avoid falling into any of the situations that can spoil your marriage. It could shatter your dreams of being in a beautiful married life.
